(U.S. Senate History) Mike Mansfield and Everett M. Dirksen Write A Caring Letter to Their Colleague Jennings Randolph. Back in the good old days of pre-polarization, there existed a time when Democratic and Republican members of Congress debated during the day and socialized as friends the same evening. Here is a one-of-a-kind typed letter signed by Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield and Minority Leader Everett M. Dirksen, one page, 10½ x 8", Aug. 24, 1966, to their West Virginia colleague, Jennings Randolph. In their own fun and scholarly way, Mansfield and Dirksen beseech Randolph to visit Capitol Hill physician Dr. George Calver for an annual check-up, noting that both of them have had recent health scares. A classic piece of U.S. Senate history when impartiality and personal decency were important values. A crease and faint stamp in the upper right corner do not affect the message or the item's otherwise fine condition. Estimated Value $400 - UP
