Lot 558

12 Scarce Wilbur Clark "Token" Set (Silver Dollar Sized) of Various Compositions: 9 Desert Inn and 3 El Rancho Vegas (One Silver). Wilbur Clark was an American Casino owner and land developer in Las Vegas. He initially financed the building of The Desert Inn, originally called Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn, and ran out of money. He then found completion financing through a silent partner a mobster from Clevleand, but Clark remained the personality and figure head. At any rate, it was the jewel of Paradise, Nevada and attracted swells from all over the world in the 1950s and early 1960s. Offered is a fine, scarce collection of silver dollar sized tokens 1½ x 1½", each unique, that were also used as key chains or affixed to money clips. They are in white metal, copper nickel and one in silver. Nine of the tokens celebrate the Desert Inn and three El Rancho Vegas Casino. The Desert Inn after nearly 50 years was closed and demolished in 2000, pretty much marking the end of old Las Vegas. This collection is steeped with that nostalgia of a time long past. Estimated Value $500 - UP
