Coca-Cola: Extremely Rare, Original, 50th Anniversary Poster 1886-1936, Recently Conservation Backed and Restored on Linen. Very difficult to find 50th Anniversary Coca-Cola poster. This poster was originally on cardboard which was becoming increasingly at risk of damage given the brittleness which eventually could have caused irreparable damage to the image. We sent poster to Jaimie Mendez Restoration Studio to be removed from decaying cardboard, stabilized and then linen backed. Linen backing (actually acid free cotton canvas fabric) is a pricey conservation method used to mount and preserve vintage posters so they can be displayed or framed without compromising their intrinsic value. Antique posters/paper are stabilized through de-acidification as the acids within the printing inks can disintegrate the original paper over time. This is done through a restoration process of chemical baths to protect the poster from any further "corrosion" and removing it from the equally damaging effects of the original card board backing. Linen backing holds the poster flat and smooth allowing it to be easily handled, stored or framed. The result proved nothing less than remarkable. The poster is intact with just a few areas of touch up, primarily an 8" fissure below the "y" of anniversary which was caused by the cardboard beginning to exhibit stress that while evident, is now significantly minimized in appearance. The poster now displays beautifully. The colors are deep and vivid, the image itself of two women in swimsuits representing the old and the new spanning the first 50 years of Coca-Cola is absolutely wonderful. A significant addition to any collector of Coca-Cola, now restored for the next generations of Coca-Cola collectors. Poster measures 50 x 30" with an additional one inch of backing surrounding the original paper for ease of framing and handling. Rare and desirable for any level of collector. Estimated Value $1,800 - UP
From The Private Collection of James Harrison Ring.
