Beautiful 19th Century Russian Icon of Exceptional Quality, Hand Painted Gesso and Gilt Gold on Wood "Mother of God" with Coins. From Central Russia an exceptional exampled ca. 1880 of "The Mother of God, The Joy To All Who Suffer with Coins". 14 x 12" on thick wood panel. Icon is based on a miracle at chapel in the 1880s where lightening struck the church shattering the alms box and charring the walls. The icon "Joy of All Who Suffer" hanging was found face down. Where it was once dark and obscure, the image became far more vivid and clear with several of the coins from the alms box stuck to the icon. As a piece of art in any decor, this is a beautiful piece and of fine quality. It has remained in excellent condition these 100+ years. Consignor has included a folio explaining the history of icons and this particular "miracle". Estimated Value $900 - UP
