Daniel Allen Cohen. "Wealth Bar". Daniel Allen Cohen, a young artist in Los Angeles has made quite the name for himself at some of the largest contemporary and prestigious art shows throughout the world including Art Basel in Miami Offered is one of a series of his creations he calls "Precious Bars" this particular example "Wealth Bar". Notes from his website, Thisisaddictive.com explains: The trope is that children crave chocolate while adults crave money and power. In his series, Precious Bars, Cohen hybridizes these cross-generational desires and presents over-sized objects of nostalgia, lust and yearning. To do this, he parodies packaging of iconic chocolate bars that promise sugary treats, slightly altering their text to seduce with promise of wealth. For example, Mr. Goodbar becomes Mr. Goldbar, KitKat turns into GoldRush and Heath changes to Wealth. Each package is torn partially open, revealing not the chocolate of the original but the power signifier of the pastiche: stacks of money or bars of gold. This one is signed and numbered on verso on black credit card-like COA Artist Proof 1/1. It notes it was purchased in 2017 and restored in 2020. Bar hangs from a metal flange on verso or can just set atop a shelf. 12 x 47". The heavily lacquered bills are Hollywood studio prop money, the bar wrapping heavy gloss finished and plasticized paper. Estimated Value $2,500 - UP
From The Private Collection of James Harrison Ring.
