Artist Unknown. Magnificent Continental School (Early 19th Century) Scottish Landscape. One of the most beautiful works in this auction is this painting from the Continental School (Early 19th Century) depicting an idealized and romantic landscapes in diffuse light, boasting stunning hinting slightly at the details in the distance. In the foreground two Scottish pipers to the left, with two couples at right about to take a boat out for a sail on the lake. A magnificent piece very much embodying the celebration of nature, beauty and inspiration in landscapes during this period of European paintings. Original work measures 18 x 24" and has been relined and conserved sometime in the early 20th Century. The work is magnificently framed to 28 x 34" and while heavy, is very much period appropriate. By any measure a stunning piece. Painting is unsigned, seemingly common for this group of artists active during this period. Estimated Value $900 - UP
