Tchelitchew, Pavel Fedorovich. Costume Sketch, Dancer. (1898-1957) born in the Russian Federation but eventually made his way to Connecticut after a stay in Italy. He is known for his portrait work, fantasy subjects, abstract figures and costume design. Offered is one of his glorious and colorful abstract figures boasting brilliant colors of a dancer conveying movement and joyous rhythm. 14 x 11" Quite possibly a costume sketch for an opera or theatrical work. Condition: Absolutely no fading of colors but the paper exhibits overall toning which is to be expected given the 70-80 years in age. Paper is also somewhat fragile as evidenced by what appears to be two hairline scratches caused by old creases from behind. They do not impact the overwhelming appeal of the art. Estimated Value $500 - UP
Empire Gallery, Pasadena, 2004.
