Strobel, Oscar. "Lake Arrowhead". (1891-1967) California artist known primarily for his desert landscapes and murals, Stroebel was clearly having some fun with this late 1940s watercolor illustration of an athletic couple hitting the slopes at Snow Mountain Valley one of California's older ski areas. Skiing exploded in California post WWII and enjoyed even well into Spring. 16½ x 14" artist has signed in pencil at lower right corner. Watercolor was in a crumbling mat and has been removed revealing a near pristine condition of this vintage work. Refreshingly risqué and definitely a must for fans of the sport.
