Leonard Borman. "Mission San Juan Capistrano". (1894-1995) Popular California artist during the first half of the 20th Century whose works are found in many California homes. He was best known for landscapes, still lifes and marine paintings and painted from 1920 to 1950. Offered is a beautiful period set oil on canvas of Mission San Juan Capistrano, a landmark and cultural icon of Southern California. Established in 1776 by Spanish Catholics, the mission has a remarkable storied history, much of it having to do simply with its survival from floods and earthquakes. Restoration and conservation remains a priority in maintaining this heritage site for generations to come. It enjoys in excess of 500,000 visitors a year. This large work measures 34 x 44" and framed in gilt wood. It remains in excellent condition with areas of craquelure, otherwise the colors vivid and the details very impressive.
