Ture Bengtz. Summer Day. (1907-1903) Finnish immigrant who settled in Boston and in 1927 attended the prestigious School of Fine Arts was not only a fine painter, but also a technical illustrator for Raytheon during WWII, his illustrations proving so exact that they appeared to many to be photographs. His optimism for living in the US informed his artwork, as can be seen in this outstanding example (oil on canvas) of his style--two girls on a bridge on a lazy summer day watching the patterns in the water. Remarkably, the original exhibition tag for this piece still exists on back of painting. 24th Swedish American Art Exhibition, Chicago, April 6-13, 1947 with the title of the work and a price of $400 (over $4600.00 today.) The artist remains immensely popular in the East. This is Goldberg Auctions' first time to offer a piece by Bengtz. Charming, colorful and all together lovely and in excellent condition. 24 x 20" and framed to 31 x 27" in a vintage distressed wood frame which proves a striking complement to the piece. Estimated Value $1,400 - UP
