Fidel Castro: Prime Minister of Cuba On the Mound and at Bat. Vintage Original Newswire Photos from 1966, Rare (1926-2016) Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959-1976 and President from 1976-2008. 1.) Cuba's infamous pitcher--turned-revolutionary leader, never got his shot at the big-leagues. Most stories of his try-outs with American teams have been debunked or even that he was a star pitcher in college. But certainly he had an affinity for the game as these photos prove. 1.) Sepia tinted double weight 11 x 5½" photo from Bohemia Magazine's archive reprinted for a 1988 issue with red crop marks visible. Dated 1966 of Castro on the mound during the National Amateur Baseball Series in Havana. 2.) Second image from the same amateur series, from UPI London Office dated 1966 with a great shot of the crowd, people on the field and at photo's edge a newsreel camera.
