MAD Magazine Original Illustrated Panel 4: "The Lighter Side of Summer Hazards" by 50 Year Veteran of MAD, Dave Berg (1920-2002) Beloved American illustrator and cartoonist known for his celebrated career at MAD magazine after contributing to several comic books in the 1940s including two years with Stan Lee at Timely Comics (now known as Marvel Comics.) Berg contributed to Mad for 46 years beginning in 1957 until his death, appearing in 368 issues. Single panel, 24½ x 18½", with three funny strips including one featuring William Gaines: Top strip is a husband going over expenses and realizing it best not to go on vacation. The wife pulls a clever twist about putting in a pool and new lawn furniture with the money saved resulting in the husband conceding by stating to go on vacation to economize. Center strip is the frustration of having a house fly buzzing around Dave Berg look alike destroying his bed trying to kill it then proclaiming he can now sleep. Lower strip is an illustrated William Gaines, publisher of MAD, getting rid of flying bugs with an aerosol only to be choking his guests. Signed Berg, 1975 panel 4. Estimated Value $400 - UP
