Historic Cuba: 14 Historic, Vintage Original Silver Gelatin Photos (1898 -1928). 14 Compelling, scarce photos from Cuba spanning 1898 to 1928. 1898: Two photos of Cuban and Spanish Soldiers with one particularly great posing on rubble in a plaza. Two from the early 20th Century is a building called The Cuban Electric Co. with both a US and Cuban flag flying and horse drawn carriages surrounding, the other a long distance photo from May 20, 1902 of thousands in the street celebrating Independence Day (a marvel of a photo.) From 1928 a US Destroyer sailing into Cuba's Old Harbor with President Calvin Coolidge on board, the first President of the US to visit Cuba, in this dramatic view of the harbor, the Old Spanish Fortress and Morro Castle. The nine remaining photos are all dated July, 1928 within the image but stamped on verso August with the Republica de Cuba press stamp in faint green are photos during construction of The Malecón, a broad esplanade, roadway, and seawall that stretches 5 miles along the coast in Havana, Cuba. A major construction project that was started in 1901 and took several decades to complete, a monumental feat for Cuba that remains popular with Cubans. All photos display normal evidence of use and wear given their age but truly scarce and intriguing. Estimated Value $400 - UP
