Fidel Castro: 12 Vintage Original, Rare Newswire and Magazine Photographs : With Che Guevarra, With Contras, In NYC at UN Meeting & Khrushchev (1926-2016) Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959-1976 and President from 1976-2008. An intriguing lot of various newswire photos (AP, UPI and Bohemia Photo) from the early 1960s when he proved, for better or worse, a media sensation. 1.) Five of the photographs are from Castro's historic two visits to NYC to speak at the UN (the 1959 visit, only four months after his overthrow of Cuba and the volatile 1960 attendance) one especially fine standing under the UN symbol, photos of hundreds of onlookers in NYC and one of Castro very displeased with a hotel switch in NYC and arriving to UN to inform the Secretary-General. 2.) All smiles meeting Nikita Khrushchev during his first visit to The Kremlin 3.) Six photos of Castro signing reforms, meeting with field workers and families, an amazing photo of contras brandishing Osvaldo Ozón (?) and two identified as by Osvaldo Salas, a color photo of Castro that has bled to red, not unusual for color photos of the time and an arresting photo of Castro holding a rifle. 4.) Outstanding photo of Castro with Che Guevara with Brazilian President Janio Quadros, President of Brazil photo dated April 1960, Bohemia Departamento Fotographico. All in fine to very fine condition.
