Doyle, Arthur Conan. Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, First American Edition (1892). Harper, 1892. First Edition. ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, Harper and Brothers, Franklin Square, New York. 1892, first American Edition, with error on page 65 line 10 with exclamation mark in middle of sentence, however no error on line four ("if had") that some editions have. Book is in good to very good condition. Issues are: a book plate, the elegant signature of the book plate owner where he has written "E.G. Smith Xmas 1894" on loose endpaper, and the name Abe McGregor Goff signed twice in blue fountain pen ink, once on front endpaper on verso of first illustration. There is a chip to cloth cover on spine, wear at edges of top and bottom of spine, soft corners to boards and slight split at hinge on back cover. What remains quite appealing is the book's embossed illustration on the cover and the title in gold gilt are in very fine condition, the gilt letters and illustration on spine also bold. All 16 illustrations printed on glossy stock present, the binding firm and square. This is a solid US First Edition of this classic crime novel which would make a fine addition to any collection. Estimated Value $1,000 - UP
