Tully, Jim. The Bruiser. Inscribed and Signed by the Author/Boxer. (1886-1947) Considered the father of "Hardboiled Fiction." Grossett & Dunlap Publishers, New York. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good and highly prized due to cover illustration and quite difficult to find in such presentable condition. Book Club Edition 248 pp. similar in every way to the 1936 edition save that the jacket is different on verso and the small print stating at bottom of front flap, "Issuance of this new edition at a reduced price……." Front of jacket quite nice, on verso, a small stain and a tape lift. Original tan cloth lettered in black, spine tight and in clean used condition. Inscribed "To Ruth, from her old friend. Jim Tully, 1937". Jim Tully quite the character himself, was a boxer/vagabond in his 20s fighting in over 40 bouts and had been encouraged to write about his experiences. The Bruiser proved a hit and has been reissued numerous times by several publishers. Estimated Value $400 - UP
