Steinlen, Théophile Alexandre; Scarce Original French WWI Era Relief Fund Poster by One of the Greatest French Illustrators of the Time. A clearly emotional, but beautiful poster to raise funds for the reconstruction of destroyed homes of the displaced, especially women and children, after WWI. The poster was illustrated by the great Théophile Steinlen in charcoal, whose works most have seen but never knew his name. His most famous, Tournée du Chat Noir (Black Cat Cabaret), the poster of a sitting cat can command prices approaching $20,000. L'Aisne Dévastée was originally folded prior and in overall excellent condition. But for optimum presentation, poster was professionally conservation-backed some years ago in linen, rendering these folds moot. Poster has even age toning and we note only a dime sized area of touch-up at the center fold, which is common. A very fine example of this gorgeous poster boasting lovely colors.
