A British King, Two Dukes and the Royal Doctor: George V Document, John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlboro and ALS by the Duke of Wellington. Fine collection of British manuscripts: 1.) George V signed license to wear the Insignia of the Third Class of the Order of the Excellent Crop to a Herber Summers, Postal Commissioner in Peking, Republic of China dated May 24th 1917. The king has signed boldly at top with document in excellent condition. 2.) Document signed by John Churchill, the 1st Duke of Marlborough circa 1700. Countersigned by James Craggs (1657-1721) as master General of the Ordnance. Churchill proved an able English soldier and notably a long lived statesman whose career spanned the reign of five monarchs. Appointment boasts beautiful calligraphy on laid paper. Condition of manuscript was received split in half and very fragile. Modest conservation was tendered to rejoin the two parts, and several other distressed areas to hold document in shape using acid-free Neschen Filmoplast paper tape on verso. Manuscript now presents well. 14 x 9½" 3.) ALS, 4½ x 7" by the Duke of Wellington as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, dated Sept. 9, 1845 from Walmer Castle and is addressed to Lady Powlett, daughter of William Lowther, 1st Earl of Lonsdale. Excellent condition with only a tiny stain at bottom right corner tip. 4.) Sir James Reid (1849-1923) surgeon to Queen Victoria and King Edward VII signed leaf on stock paper, "Yours faithfully James Reid." Estimated Value $800 - UP
