Lot 99

1819 N-3 R3- Close Stars PCGS graded AU58. Frosty light to medium brown with darker steel brown toning on the high points of the portrait. Satiny mint luster covers the protected areas on both sides. No spots or stains, just a few tiny ticks on the cheek and nostril. There is a nick-like planchet chip close over star 1 and a thin planchet fold hidden in the dentils over the E in UNITED, both as struck, and these two marks might help identify this cent. The reverse is choice. M-LDS. A very nice example of this scarce "Close Stars" variety. Graded EF40 by Noyes, his photo #28587. Our grade is EF40+. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer in 63. PCGS #36634. Estimated Value $750 - UP
