1916. NGC graded AU-58. Evenly toned with classic deep russet around the rims, lighter golden gray to the centers over luster. This is the popular key date with a tiny mintage of only 52,000 pieces late in 1916. These were somewhat of surprise to collectors, as production was supposed to begin in 1917, and when the 1917 quarters were released, these 1916 quarters were found inside the bags. Thus few were saved most entered circulation unnoticed. Estimated Value $8,000 - 8,500
