Lot 600

1913-D. NGC graded MS-67. A hint of light tone that offers classic elegance with delicate golden gray on the obverse, the reverse with a touch of lemon and rose gold. The coins from the Eliasberg Collection were first purchased by J.M. Clapp until his death in 1906, then continued by his son John H Clapp, both who bought many directly from the Mints as they were issued, such as this lovely 1913 Denver Quarter dollar. They were known for demanding quality and the Mints did their best to serve them the absolutely finest coins produced each year. In 1942 the New York numismatic firm of Stack's brokered the entire Clapp Collection to Louis Eliasberg for what seemed an inconceivable sum, and some 55 years later the silver and copper coins cons brought unbelievable prices, as did the gold coins, even though the gold coins were sold in 1982 years earlier. Pop 2; tied for the finest examples graded at both services. Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000
Ex Eliasberg Collection.
