Lot 49

1794 S-63 R2 PCGS graded AU55. Very attractive frosty light chocolate and medium olive brown. No spots or stains, but there are a few microscopic planchet flakes on both sides and a speck of reddish planchet slag at the right foot of the I in AMERICA. The only contact marks are four fine scratches at STATES and a faint scuff of hairlines under UNI. LDS, Breen state II, with obvious die clashmarks on both sides. The repunching on the 7 and 4 in the date remains sharp. Both sides of this cent are plated in the 1923 Chapman reference on the cents of 1794. Graded EF45 net VF35 and tied for CC#17 in the Noyes census, his photo #33287. Bland says EF45 and CC#12. Our grade is EF45+ sharpness net EF40. A very nice example of the "Fallen 4" die variety, so-called because the 9 and 4 are out of proper alignment. The attribution and Boka provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 3 finer: 1 in 58, 2 in 62. PCGS #35651. Estimated Value $9,000 - UP
