Lot 47

1794 S-61 R4 PCGS graded AU58+, CAC Approved. Frosty medium chocolate brown and steel. Fine flowline luster covers the protected areas on both sides and this cent has excellent eye appeal. No stains or roughness, only minor contact marks. The notable marks are a fine hairline scratch down the neck and a minor rim bruise between the top of the cap and the L in LIBERTY. M-LDS, Breen state III, with obvious die clashmarks on both sides but no die cracks on the reverse. Both sides of this cent are plated in the 1910 Elder-Gilbert reference on the cents of 1794, in the 1923 Chapman reference, and in the 2005 Provenance Gallery by Boka. Graded AU55 net EF45 and tied for CC#5 honors in the Noyes census, his photo #29981. Bland says EF45 and CC#7. Our grade is EF45. A sharp, very attractive cent that comes with a superb provenance. The attribution and Boka provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 62. PCGS #35645. Estimated Value $20,000 - UP
