Lot 391

1800 S-200 R3 PCGS graded XF45. Very attractive frosty medium brown and light chocolate. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable marks are a shallow planchet flake at the left corner of the eye and a small spot of microscopic roughness in the field close before the forehead. Traces of underlying mint frost show in the protected areas, especially on the obverse. LDS, Breen state VI, with a strong die crack through OF nearly reaching the adjacent A. This cent has some loose dirt on both sides and it appears to have never been brushed or messed with in any way. It is a new discovery, not seen by Noyes or Bland, and it appears to be the second finest behind only the marginally finer ANS example when compared to the Noyes photos. Our grade is VF35+, and it could be even higher if given a proper bath to expose the underlying mint frost. A great opportunity for the collector of superior early large cents. Estimated Value $3,000 - UP
Discovered by Henry T. Hettger.
