Lot 34

1794 S-48 R5 Starred Reverse PCGS VF Detail Environmental Damage. Slightly glossy medium to darker olive brown. No verdigris but the planchet is covered with fine to moderate granularity, strongest on the reverse. The only marks are a pair of small, dull nicks on the chin and a tiny rim bruise at the E in UNITED. The rims are complete and most of the stars are visible, but there is weakness along the dentils over MERI due to the usual swelling in that area. E-MDS, Breen state II, with barely visible swelling from CE in CENT to the R in AMERICA. The date and legends are complete and easily readable in spite of a few weak elements on the reverse. Not perfect, but waiting for a choice "Starred Reverse" cent can be an exercise in futility. Not seen by Noyes or Bland; a relatively new discovery. Our grade is VF20 sharpness net VG8. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #35705. Estimated Value $17,500 - UP
