Lot 245

1835 N-5 R2 Small 8 & Stars PCGS graded AU58. Frosty steel brown and chocolate with lighter steel brown toning in protected areas, particularly on the reverse. Satiny mint luster covers the fields and protected areas and this cent has mint state eye appeal in spite of a hint of friction on the highest points of the portrait. The only marks are some light scratches in the field over star 2 and off the tip of the nose. MDS with fine die flowlines in the obverse fields and a crack through the bottom of 835. A strong double profile extends from the forehead down to the chin (from die bounce or "machine doubling"). Our grade is AU50. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 7 finer: 1 in 63, 3 in 64, 2 in 65, 1 in 66. PCGS #37084. Estimated Value $400 - UP
