Lot 244
1835 N-4 R4+ Small 8 & Stars PCGS graded VF30. Attractive glossy medium brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable marks are a shallow planchet flake in the field at the inner curl and a tiny pin scratch across the E in CENT. The planchet flake is a mint-made flaw, but it catches the eye. Very rare terminal die state with a large cud break at NITED. Called VF25 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF25 net F15 and tied for CC#12, his photo #31794. Our grade is VF20. Near the lower end of the condition census for the variety, but significantly higher among those few known with the rim cud. A very nice cent. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer: 1 in 55, 1 in 58. PCGS #37081. Estimated Value $1,500 - UP Ex Fred H. Borcherdt 5/2/1988-Jim Corrado, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldberg’s 2/11/2007:692-Daniel W.
