Lot 238

1834 N-5 R5 Lg 8 & Stars Med Ltrs PCGS AU Details Altered Surface. Glossy olive brown and steel with lighter steel brown toning on the highpoints. This cent is free of marks or other defects and it looks perfectly smooth to the unaided eye, but a glass reveals extremely faint roughness under the glossy toning (perhaps "Environmental Damage" is more appropriate than "Altered Surface"). A tiny planchet flake over the left side of the O in ONE (as struck) can help identify this cent. A nicely detailed example of this tough "Redbook" variety. Our grade is net VF35. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #37042. Estimated Value $1,250 - UP
Ex Thomas D. Reynolds 5/13/2011-Chuck Hall Collection.
