Lot 214

1831 N-5 R4 Medium Letters PCGS graded EF40. Glossy medium brown and chocolate. The surfaces are smooth and the only marks are a thin diagonal nick close over the nostril and a small but obvious dig at the top of the N in ONE. Otherwise this cent is void of notable marks or other defects. EDS with sharp dentils around the obverse and smooth, hard fields on that side thanks to a fresh die. The reverse die was well worn from an earlier marriage. A nice example of a variety that is quite difficult to find in high grades. Graded VF30 net VF20 and tied for CC#13 in the Noyes census, his photo #39112. Our grade is VF25. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer: 1 in 45, 1 in 62, 1 in 63. PCGS #37003. Estimated Value $500 - UP
Ex Douglas F. Bird 6/1/2006-Chuck Hall Collection.
