1794 S-33 R6 PCGS Fine Detail Environmental Damage. Rather glossy dark olive brown with lighter brown and tan toning on the devices, a classic "two-tone" cent. Minor roughness covers all but the highpoints but there is no verdigris. The notable marks are a rim bruise below the 94, a smaller one off the end of the pole, and another at D-S. The date and legends are clear except for ONE CENT, which has been obliterated by the severe die failure that accounts for the rarity of this die paring. M-LDS, Breen state V, with six radial die breaks on the reverse (the so-called "Wheelspoke" breaks) and heavy swelling inside the wreath. The reverse die failed spectacularly creating one of the great rarities among the numbered Sheldon die varieties. Called VF20 net G6 and tied for CC#10 in the Noyes census, his photo #25040. Bland says F12 net VG7 and tied for CC#7. Our grade is F15 sharpness net VG7+, close to VG8. An important cent that comes with a very nice provenance. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label.
