Lot 1424

1851-O. PCGS graded MS-61. This is a scarce New Orleans Mint issue, which is available in most circulated grades for a price, but rarely is it found in Mint State. Here is a quite attractive Mint State example that displays handsome orange-gold color, strong luster and clean surfaces. The fields lack the usually seen handling marks found on most of these Type I Twenties. Liberty's curls show strong separation and her cheek is satin smooth. One hidden bagmark is noted on her upper lip. There are several microscopic raised marks on her cheek, neck and within her curls, these are from light rust on the dies, which likely formed during the hot, humid New Orleans Summer. A most beautiful example of this issue. Mostly untoned with lots of mint luster visible. Pop 4; 9 finer, 8 in 62, 1 in 63. (PCGS # 8905) Estimated Value $25,000 - 30,000
