Lot 1413

1896-S. NGC graded MS-63. Frosty with lovely light gold tone and eye catching luster throughout. The surfaces are quite fresh and clean, and this is certainly one of the finer examples of this date and mint known. Most 1896-S eagles show considerably more handling marks than present here. Liberty's face and neck are particularly clean. As often found on the 1896-S eagles, the mintmark is somewhat poorly defined at its center but the upper serif is sharp. A lot of eye appeal here! Well struck and choice. Pop 1; 3 finer, 2 in 64, 1 in 68. (PCGS # 8736) Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500
