Lot 1411

1881-O. NGC graded MS-61. CAC. Well struck and mostly untoned save for a few traces of coppery gold hues. The strike is sharp throughout, and the surfaces show the expected scattered handling marks primarily in the fields. This is a very rare date. Precious few survive at all (about 225 pieces according to CoinFacts) and this is tied with best seen. Finding an example of this date in any grade is a real challenge. Only 8,350 struck. Pop 8; tied for the finest examples graded at both services. (PCGS # 8693) Estimated Value $15,000 - UP
