Lot 1388

1904. NGC graded Proof 67+ Cameo. A blazing untoned superb gem. Near perfect quality to the surfaces with no signs of handling on the devices or within the fields. Exceptional quality like this is rarely seen, especially so when combined with the desired Cameo contrast. The Liberty or Coronet half eagle had been first struck in 1839, and remained basically unchanged save for the adoption of the Motto on the reverse in 1866, through the end of this series in 1908. Proofs were issued in most years, but always in small numbers. Here is one of the nicer ones to cross our desks. Only 136 struck. Pop 1; only 1 example graded finer in 68 Cameo. (PCGS # 88499) Estimated Value $50,000 - UP
