Lot 1375

1810. Large date, large 5. BD-4, Rarity 2. PCGS graded AU-55. Well struck with full separation on all of Liberty's curls as well as the eagle's feathers. Struck in bright yellow gold with no signs of toning. There is only a hint of wear on the uppermost devices here. Full mint luster in the protected areas and the surfaces show minimal signs of circulation. For identification there is a minor scuff behind the eagle's head in the field. The Capped Bust half eagle design was created by Mint Engraver John Reich in 1807 upon his arrival at the Philadelphia Mint. The design was quite popular at the time and this continues with collectors to this very day. A most elegant example of this desired early half eagle (PCGS # 8108) Estimated Value $7,500 - 8,000
