Lot 1319

1859-D. NGC graded MS-64. A nice untoned example that offers fantastic color and surfaces with near perfect quality throughout. The fields are outstanding as are the devices, with full mint frost intact. The strike is sharp too, which is unusual for this date and mint. As the clouds of war descended on this country, this important Gold dollar was struck, it was obviously set aside soon after it was coined, and carefully preserved since that time. Today it is one of the finer examples around, with just one example reported finer by NGC. A classic condition rarity and certain to be a major centerpiece of an advanced collection. Only 4,952 struck. Pop 3; 1 finer in 65. (PCGS # 7553) Estimated Value $24,000 - 25,000
