Lot 74

1842 N-6 R1 Large Date PCGS graded MS66 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous light steel and medium brown with traces of faded mint red remaining in a few of the protected areas. A very attractive cent with only a few trivial marks. The notable ones are a thin diagonal nick near the hair under star 7, a spot of dark toning in the dentils right of the date, and a spot of darker toning on the lower loop of the wreath ribbon. LDS, die state d (Reiver's old N-10 variety). The die lumps in the field at the lips and lowest curl are gone and a tiny lump has formed near the leaf right of the bottom of the E in ONE. Our grade is MS63. Tied for CC#2 honors for the die variety and tied with one other example for finest known in the late (N-10) die state. The attribution is shown on the PCGS label. Comes with a nice provenance. PCGS population 2; none finer at PCGS. PCGS #403940. Estimated Value $2,750 - UP
