Lot 695

1806. Round 6. BD-6, Rarity 2. NGC graded MS-64. The devices are remarkably frosty, which is most unusual on these early gold coins, a testament to the amazing quality and high grade of this coin. The devices are all well struck with full definition on Liberty's curls and the eagle's feathers which is more important than usual as this is a very late die state of this popular and plentiful variety. Notice the long thin die lines (raised on the coin and seen on many others from these dies) from the arrow tip on up, and down through the second T of STATES to the clouds. Trace adjustment marks are noted, but they don't reach into the lettering, and are seen on the upper left dentils of the reverse. The color is bright and untoned. Outstanding surfaces as expected for this near gem early gold coin, and one which precious few can even come close in comparison for the quality and eye appeal. Only 54,417 struck. Pop 18; 2 finer, 1 in 64+, 1 in 65. Estimated Value $25,000 - UP

Realized $35,400
