Complete Six-Medal Set - U.S. Centennial Exposition Pressed Wood Medals. A complete set with its original box is exceedingly rare. These sets have almost always been broken up. This set comes in the remnants of its original box including a board frame insert and the bottom of the box with print inside. The print shows a "Birds Eye View of the International Exhibition Buildings 1876 Philadelphia, Fairmount Park, Published by Breuker & Kessler, Philada., Manufacturered By The Ornamental Wood Co., Philada." A warped paper frame holds the six medals: 1876 Independence Hall, 63.5mm; The Main Building, 76.8mm, George Washington, 62.8mm; Gen'l Joseph Hawley President of the Exposition 62.7mm; Memorial Hall, 76.5mm; Director General Alfred Goshorn, 62.9mm. All of these medals and the remaining pieces of the box show signs of water damage and areas of dark brown staining. There some bold cracks on the reverse of the Washington medal. Regardless, it is still very desireable, rare and collectable. Estimated Value $300 - UP
