Lot 375

1884-S. PCGS graded MS-63. CAC. PQ. Sure looks a point finer than the given grade. Careful study recommended. This is an incredibly challenging date to find in any mint state grade. For whatever reason virtually the entire mintage of 1884-S silver dollars entered circulation, and most stayed there a very long time. Even finding AU-55 or AU-58 coins is tough! The precious few true mint state coins are in extreme demand due to their rarity. In choice grades as seen here only the hearty and perfectly preserved examples are awarded such a lofty grade from PCGS, and when one examines the surfaces it is logical to expect a higher technical grade. Perhaps it will come to pass. The surfaces are far nicer than any "choice" example of even a rare date and mint. View it and discern for yourself. Pop 53; 21 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7156) Estimated Value $40,000 - UP
