1853. Arrows. NGC graded MS-67. This is a blazing bright white gem that offers a bold strike and gleeming surfaces. The strike is sharp on each of the stars and devices, and the surfaces are free of all but a few tiny ticks. As 1853 unfolded, Congress acted to stop all the silver coins being melted (they were worth about 107% of their stated face value) so most disappeared from circulation into the melting pots for the profits. To announce the reduced silver content on the half dimes and dimes, Arrows were added flanking the date, which made a statement of "do not melt me, I'm lower value" to the public. On the quarters and half dollars, glory rays were also added around the eagle on the reverse as well as the Arrows at the date. For traditions sake the silver dollar weight was not adjusted, but few were seen in circulation at the time. Here is a great Looking type coin. Pop 11; 6 finer, 1 in 67 Star, 4 in 68, 1 in 69+. Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000

Realized $6,000
