Lot 2

1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling Noe-1 R2 NGC graded MS65. A Large Planchet variety with Pellets beside the trunk. Frosty light steel gray. Sharply struck a bit off center to the bottom affecting the top of only one letter in the legend. The only defect is a chip out of the rim at the bottom (as struck). Clear evidence of die clashing shows at MASA, as usual for this variety. The date and legends are bold (except for some weakness on MASA thanks to the die clashing). A premium example of this very popular early colonial issue. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. NGC population 5; 4 finer: 2 in 65+, 2 in 67. Estimated Value $40,000 - UP

Realized $42,000
