Lot 184

1926-S. NGC graded MS-65. PQ. Lovely light gold toning on both sides which expresses the natural antique nature of a well stored, well cared for coin. This is of course a key date issue which is virtually unheard of at the gem grade level. Add to this mix the incredible strike on both sides, with a fully split tail on the bison and full horn, unlike so many of the branch mint coins of this era which are poorly struck up, even when fully mint state.

The mintage for the 1926-S came in at 970,000, and while that may sound adequate, recall that no one paid much attention to these at the time, thus few were saved at all. Hence, any coin in Mint State is a real treat to find, as so few exist. Of course demand for Gems from well healed collectors has always been extremely high so when one turns up with a bold strike, glittering gem surfaces and abundant eye appeal, expect considerable competition! Well struck and choice. A key date coin. Pop 10; 6 finer, 2 in 65+, 3 in 66, 1 in 66 Star. Estimated Value $50,000 - 60,000
