Lot 881

1852 N-1 R1 Repunched 18 PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous medium steel brown and light chocolate with 10% of the planchet showing mint red, mostly on the reverse. A cent with excellent eye appeal and just a few minor marks. The notable ones are a short diagonal scratch over star 1, a spot of darker toning right of the inner curl, and a thin nick on the rim under star 12. E-MDS, die state b. The repunching under the 1 is dull and the repunching on the 8 is no longer visible. A couple fine die cracks have formed on the obverse but the reverse is uncracked. The devices are sharply struck but the dentils and rims on the obverse are mostly flat as often seen on this variety. Our grade is MS62+. Previously housed in a PCGS holder graded MS63RB (PCGS label #01899.63/8079883). The attribution and Matthews Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; 5 finer: 1 in 64+, 1 in 65, 3 in 66. Value $350 - UP
