Lot 747

1845 N-6 R2 PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Very attractive frosty chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has choice mint state eye appeal, but there is a collection of microscopic pinpricks near the dentils over star 9. Otherwise this cent is sharp and flawless. EDS (but not quite the earliest), die state b, with fine clashmarks on both sides. Our grade is AU58. The attribution and Matthews Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer: 1 in 63, 1 in 64. Value $275 - UP
Ex Herman Halpern, Stack's 3/16/1988:570-March Wells-Robert E. Matthews Collection-Matthews Estate (includes the Wells collection envelope and Halpern lot ticket).

Realized $480
