Lot 739

1844 N-4 R2 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Frosty steel brown and light olive with generous traces of mellowed mint red remaining visible on both sides, especially on the obverse. The only marks are a nick on the coronet over LI and some small spots of slightly darker toning (not carbon) scattered over the reverse, none notable. LDS, die state d, with narrow rim cud breaks at stars 4 & 5 and fine die cracks on the reverse. Softly struck on the tip of the coronet and the bottom of the wreath, as usual for this variety. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Matthews Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 64. Value $425 - UP
