Lot 728

1843 N-6 R1 Type of 1844 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Frosty light olive and steel brown with about a third of the planchet showing mint color, mostly on the reverse. The only marks are a speck of darker brown toning on the neck and a swipe of slightly darker toning in the field at the inner curl. This cent would be choice except that the strike on the portrait is soft while everything else is sharply impressed. The reverse is perfect, nearly gem. E-MDS, die state a. The repunching on the 18 is clear and there are no rim cud breaks on the obverse. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Matthews Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 4 finer in 65RB. Value $500 - UP
