Lot 707

1840 N-9 R3 Large Date PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Frosty medium chocolate and reddish brown. Sharply struck and very attractive. The only marks are three nicks in the field before the neck. Scarce EDS, die state b, with smooth fields and a faint die crack from the dentils under star 4 to the nose where it fades away (an uncracked example is unknown and may not exist). The pantograph lines on the portrait (from die preparation) are sharp, especially on the neck. A very nice example of this tough die state. Our grade is AU55. The attribution and Matthews Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 6 finer: 2 in 63, 1 in 64, 2 in 65, 1 in 65+. Value $450 - UP
