Lot 697

1836 N-6 R2 Gobrecht Head PCGS graded MS62 Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty tan and light brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Sharply struck with mint state eye appeal, but there is a light touch of friction on the highest points of the portrait. No spots or stains, just a few small ticks on the cheek and neck, none significant. E-MDS with a strong cud break above star 8. A nice example of the Gobrecht Head type (easily identified by the wavy top of the head found on two varieties, 1836 N-6 & N-7). Our grade is AU55. The attribution and Matthews Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 8 finer: 4 in 63, 4 in 64. Value $600 - UP
Ex Doug Bird 6/1994-Dr. Gerald I. Maas, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/1/1998:402-Robert E. Matthews Collection-Matthews Estate.
