Lot 621

1850 C-1 R2- NGC graded MS65 Brown. The obverse is medium brown and steel while the reverse is light olive and bluish steel. Peeps of faded mint color can be found on both sides. Sharply struck with full radial lines in all but one of the stars. There are shallow low spots at the dentils tips around parts of the reverse (caused by excess lubricant on the die; a very common problem for half cents of this date). A nice half cent that comes with an equally nice provenance. Our grade is MS60+. The attribution and Eliasberg provenance are noted on the NGC label. NGC population 5; tied for finest graded of the variety at both services. Value $1,200 - UP
Ex Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., Bowers & Merena 5/20/1996:473-Boulder City NV Collection.
